In 1430 the Duke of Burgundy and the Earl of Flanders, Phillip the Good, founded the Order of the Golden Fleece in Bruges, a characteristic feature of this century of chivalry and courteous love. The wearing of the Golden Fleece shows that he was a nobleman without blame, respecting the code of knightly virtue. This tapestry depicts the King of France, Charles VII. The Royal Arms of France consists of a gold Fleur de Lys motif on a blue ground. The Fleur de Lys emblem is derived from the lily flower and has been used as decorative emblem in French heraldry for many centuries.
This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.
