This tapestry is a fine example of a classical Verdure Tapestry, woven in the town of Lille in France the 17th Century. Many Verdure (or Greenery) Tapestries were woven throughout the 16th to 18th Centuries, with designs based on plant forms, reflecting the interest in botanical themes during this period. These tapestries featured country scenes, often with birds, rivers and castles.
The town of Lille, together with Arras and Oudenarde, were important weaving centres patronised by the aristocracy. Production was often carried out by small family workshops GROUPED in guild organisations, creating mainly le rustique style tapestries, such as the ever popular Verdures, and other rural landscapes.
This beautiful tapestry is woven on a jacquard loom by skilled weavers, keeping alive the centuries old tradition of tapestry manufacturing from generation to generation. This tapestry is fully lined incorporating a sleeve along the top for hanging with a Hines hanging rod. Alternatively, this tapestry can be hung with a wooden batten which is a concealed method of hanging.

After selecting your tapestry and adding it to the shopping bag, you can choose your hanging rod option from the hanging rod page by clicking here.
Choosing the right size
The black bar part of the hanging rods are telescopic and will fit any tapestry widths that fall within the size range specified. For example, if your tapestry was 90cm wide you would need a Size 2 hanging rod. Note: The hanging rod can be slid in or out to show as little or as much of the black bar as you would like.

We also offer the option to pay by Bank Transfer and Cheque - simply select the option of your choice at checkout.
